My lesson on open source software was a huge success imply because so few students knew what open source mens. Student who did know what open source was also learned about the impacts, advantages, and disadvantages of this type of software.Throughout the lesson students needed to be guided since their lack of basic knowledge made it difficult for them to begin. After student began finding open source example they began asking more informed questions which was a clue to me that the students were learning and that the lesson was effective.

One change I may make in the future would be to give student a list of links to open source software. I did provide the student with resource links but direct links to examples may have been better since this topic proved to be too new to them.

By doing a lesson related to open source software, student may remember that there always tends to be a free version of software they need. One example is OpenOffice.org which is the same as Microsoft office. Student learn that if they need desktop publishing software at home, and cant afford it they have an alternative. This is true for many applications. It is my hope that student see the value in this and take advantage of it to better themselves.
